Bài Chòi is a diverse art form combining music, poetry, stage acting, painting and literature. It takes two main forms: "Bài Chòi games" and "Bài Chòi performance". "Bài Chòi games" are played during Lunar New Year by Việt people of Central Việt Nam. To play Bài Chòi, nine or eleven bamboo huts are built in a U-shape within a temple yard or in a vacant ground. The hut placed at the bottom of the U shape is called "main hut" (chòi cái), and the game leaders, who can be either male or female, are called Hiệu artists. The game leader takes a card out of a tube of cards, and then sings for people to guess what the card is. This part is called "Hô Thai". Players buy three cards and wait in the hut. Anyone whose three cards match the cards sung by the Hiệu artists will be declared the winner and given the prize. A new session will then restart. "Bài Chòi performance", male and female Hiệu artists perform on a rattan mat. They either travel from place to place to perform, or otherwise are invited to play for private families, forming rattan-peforming or mobile Bài Chòi styles. A single artist may also perform "solo Bài Chòi". In this case, the artists performs a number of theatrical roles. For some artists, Bài Chòi performances are a mean of earning a living. Musical instruments accompanying Bài Chòi include the two-stringed fiddle, clappers, shawm and war drums.

Bài Chòi is a form of entertaining card playing in the form of answering questions. In Bình Định, there are three forms of Bài Chòi: "story" Bài Chòi with a backdrop and theater; Bài Chòi "class"/ "mat" takes place on the mat and the Bài Chòi playing festival. Among them, the Bài Chòi festival has the largest scale, taking place during Tet holidays in the village communal house yard or a large, flat areas of land, near residential areas and markets. Nine or eleven houses with thatched roofs, made of bamboo and cork, are erected in a U shape during a Bài Chòi celebration. Cái hut is the name of the hut at the bottom of the U. Leading the game are the "Hiệu", people who are knowledgeable and good at male singing, guest singing, Lý singing, etc, know many poems, and folk songs, know how to make jokes, and at the same time, respond quickly, sitting in the Cái hut. They draw a card from the tube, hold it up, and sing a riddle about the name of the card, called Hô Thai. Players buy 3 cards and sit on huts to wait. If all 3 cards match the cards named by "Hiệu", then you win, receive a reward, and end the game. Bình Định Bài Chòi Art has musical accompaniment from erhu, duet, trumpet, and war drum. The "Hiệu" when shouting or singing must follow the rhythm of the musical instruments, especially the war drums. Players can also compete in singing and responding with "Hiệu", creating cheerful laughter and optimism for participants.

Bài Chòi is a form of card playing with 32 cards in 9 huts made of bamboo and thatched roofs. 9 huts are built according to the eight trigram formation with 8 huts corresponding to the eight gates of Tàng, Tốn, Đoài, Cảm, Ly, Trống, Cống, Côn and 1 hut in the middle, called the middle hut. Bài Chòi is hosted in large, shaded spaces during festivals and from the first day of the New Year until the end of January. The celebration begins with ceremonies performed by the elderly and dignitaries in which they worship the land, the gods, and the tutelary god while offering prayers for a peaceful new year full of bountiful harvests and wealthy villages. Ms/Mr "Hiệu" is the leader and chairperson of the Bài Chòi festival, understands the rules of the game, is good at singing, and talented in dialogue. Players not only understand the rules of the game but also must know many proverbs and know how to sing folk songs. Bài Chòi art has four basic activities: playing - hitting - shouting - singing. These activities are supported by tools such as cards, bamboo tubes, chipmunks, war drums, adoring drums, small drums, flags, etc. The rules of the game are as follows: each card has 3 leaves, and each leaf is a letter. The main card is the Tam Cúc deck of 27 pairs. One half is put into the tube for the person to chant, and the other half will be divided into 9 huts, each hut includes 3 leaves. For each card drawn, the person who wins that card will shout. If they win 3 cards, they will be the winner.

The Art of Bài Chòi is a type of folk art and folk game typical of Central Vietnam, which later developed into a type of opera. Art of Bài Chòi is a form of calling - singing - playing art of Bài Chòi at huts held in spring and some traditional festivals. The person calling/singing for art of Bài Chòi is a male and female couple called Hiệu at the main hut. Players at the huts buy cards, start playing when Hiệu shakes the cards and picks up cards, calls/sings to introduce the cards (each card is a call) with Bài Chòi tunes with lyrics of poems, rhymes, folk songs, narratives about daily activities... and reads the names of the cards for everyone to know. The game ends when the player has 3 cards that match Hiệu's call. Anyone can play art of Bài Chòi , each game has from one to two players or more. The art of Bài Chòi is conveyed in a simple and natural way, creating attraction for the public, becoming an essential and popular cultural activity throughout the Central region.
