Description A riddle is one of the small forms of oral folk art, in which the most striking, characteristic signs of objects or phenomena are given in an extremely compressed, figurative form. It represents a statement, question or phrase with double or veiled meaning, and aimed mainly to children.
Social and cultural significance Solving of riddles develops ability to the analysis, generalization, forms ability to independently draw conclusions, to accurately mark out the most characteristic, expressive signs of a subject or phenomenon, ability brightly and laconically to transfer images of objects, develops in children "a poetic view of reality". Riddles are diverse in theme and content. The main feature of the riddle is that it is a verbal-logical task. To guess a riddle is to answer the question, that is, to perform a complex logical operation. Riddles are used in classes, in work and play, in everyday life. They encourage the child to observe, consider, and learn. Solving them requires active work of thought, search. An entertaining form of riddle makes learning interesting and exciting, allows you to easily train a child in the use of lexical and grammatical language tools. Thus, riddles help children understand how capacious and colorful, using language means differently, one can say the same thing. The development of coherent speech in classes using riddles should occupy one of the central places. Vivid images are emotionally perceived by children, awaken their fantasy, imagination, develop observation and interest in everything around them, are an inexhaustible source of development of children's speech. Riddles are also used in adult life, in the work of comedians, in the genre of Askia and other cases.
Transmission method The element is an integral part of Uzbek folklore. It is passed from generation to generation, in the family, makhalla, kindergarten, school. It is specially studied in educational institutions of the philological direction. Books for children, special literature are published. Specialized research institutes are working on this topic.
