Description Mumtoz ashula (classic song) cycles is a lyrical genre which differs from other song genres with extention of the melody, steady lyric character, emotional and mounful meaning, great range, the complexity of the rhythm method and perfection of the style. The style of singing is solo with own accompaniment on tanbur, dutar and tor. Its genre composition is represented by mumtoz ashula, mumtoz yalla, katta ashula (Ferghana Valley), khalq ashula and muhammas (Bukhara), suvora and naqsh (Khoresm) and lyrical-lengthy songs of religious character (such as munojot, nat, khamd, manzuma, yakkakhonlik, khonaqoi, qalandari, etc.).
Social and cultural significance The musical heritage of Uzbekistan today is represented by an extensive range, which of course could not but affect the number of famous musical styles. Cycles of Uzbek classic songs are very popular. They have been recognized as a spiritual legacy of the people. Uzbek classics originated in ancient times - true to their traditions, inspired, beautiful - it gives fireworks of unforgettable emotions and is relevant at all times. These melodies educate, elevate, impress from the first chords. Their delicate transfusions never tire. Such compositions simply cannot get tired. But they can raise the mood, adjust to the right way, even improve well-being. Singing art or the genres of vocal music represent significant part of Uzbek oral-professional music. They are diverse in form and melos and have original manner of interpretation. Their typical features are traditionalism, professionalism, sophistication, use of the richest means of expressions and classical oriental poetic texts of various meanings and contents. Currently, it is gaining special importance in connection with the growing interest in classical music. It studied in relevant educational institutions, transmitted from generation to generation. Establishing the Yunus Rajabi Institute of National Music in Tashkent was one of the steps in its development and propaganda.
Transmission method Nowadays it is widely developing. The issues of studying mumtoz ashula from the elementary musical education (from children’s music and art schools) to the higher education system are included in the educational program. Mumtoz ashula have been traditionally orally transmitted from generation to generation, using the “master-apprentice” method.
