Description Dumbara Ratā mat weaving, producing Dumbara mats that are used as wall hangings, tapestries, and cushion covers, is done by a community of traditional weavers living in the fertile Dumbara Valley in the central highlands of Sri Lanka. The folk song kinnara gītaya (date unknown) attributes the craft’s origins to the legendary “original king of the human race” (mahāsammatha-raja).
